\u00ab\u00a0Precious and jewellery are concepts which often go together. (\u00ab Precious \u00bb and \u00ab jewellery \u00bb often go together.) This association has existed since we first began wearing jewellery – well before the first rock paintings. How do we explain the preciousness of a piece of jewellery ? Looking at the etymology of the word \u00ab precious \u00bb we find the following synonyms: \u00ab valuable, costly, beloved, dear \u00bb. Pieces of jewellery are objects to which we attach a certain value, and it is this value that makes them precious. If \u00ab costly \u00bb refers to the monetary value, \u00ab beloved and dear \u00bb are the manifestations of affectionate attachment, which is unquantifiable. These adjectives describe the jewellery as a lover, a comparison which I find accurate, because wearing a piece of jewellery is a tactile experience. We become intimate with it, it marries us, caresses us, helps us. In some ways it becomes part of our body and our personality. This is why it\u2019s natural to attribute an affectionate value to it, over and above the monetary value. In my work I try to pay homage to this notion of tactile preciousness. I create jewellery to inspire curiosity. I want the pieces to invite being touched, tried on, worn and loved. The preciousness of my jewellery lies in the attention to detail and the choice (research) of materials.\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0Alla Malova Guy<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Pr\u00e9cieux et bijoux vont souvent ensemble. Cette association existe depuis que nous avons commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 porter des bijoux, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire bien avant les premi\u00e8res peintures dans les grottes. Comment s\u2019explique la pr\u00e9ciosit\u00e9 d\u2019un bijou ? En suivant l\u2019\u00e9tymologie du mot \u00ab precious \u00bb nous trouvons les synonymes suivants : \u00abvaluable, costly, beloved, dear\u00bb. Les bijoux sont des objets auxquels nous attachons une certaine valeur, et c\u2019est cette valeur qui les rend pr\u00e9cieux. Si \u00ab costly\u00bb fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la valeur mon\u00e9taire, \u00ab beloved and dear \u00bb sont des mani- festations de l\u2019attachement affectif, inquantifiable lui. Ces deux derniers adjectifs d\u00e9crivent le bijou comme un amant. Je trouve juste une telle comparaison, car porter un bijou est une exp\u00e9rience tactile. C\u2019est un objet avec lequel nous devenons intimes : il nous \u00e9pouse, nous caresse, nous soutient. Il devient en quelque sorte l\u2019extension de notre corps, de notre personnalit\u00e9. C\u2019est pourquoi il peut \u00eatre naturel de lui attribuer une valeur affective, sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 sa valeur mon\u00e9taire. Dans mon travail, j\u2019essaie de rendre hommage \u00e0 cette notion de pr\u00e9ciosit\u00e9 tactile. Je cr\u00e9e des bijoux pour exciter la curiosit\u00e9. Je veux qu\u2019ils donnent envie d\u2019\u00eatre touch\u00e9s, essay\u00e9s, port\u00e9s et aim\u00e9s. La pr\u00e9ciosit\u00e9 de mes bijoux se retrouve dans l\u2019attention port\u00e9e aux d\u00e9tails et dans la recherche des mati\u00e8res.\u00a0\u00bb \u00a0Alla Malova Guy<\/strong><\/p>\n
