Beyond Precious… Beyond the Ocean Contemporary jewellery from Australia and New Zealand
I find preciousness in small intricate details of life forms in the natural world. In a loud bustling world filled with concrete and commercialism, the small and voiceless details of the flora, fauna and their habitats in the environment around us are easily overlooked and not considered. I don’t try to recreate or copy nature but to make my own version or manipulation by interpreting forms and textures I find into my objects and jewellery. They are informed by my environment and interests, and take on their own life as they are made, and worn. My work celebrates and magnifies the preciousness of life, and its ultimate fragility. It promotes a contemplation and awareness of the importance of life and its fleeting nature.
Je trouve précieux les petits détails complexes de formes de vie dans ce monde naturel. Dans un monde qui s’agite, envahi par le béton et le mercantilisme, les petits détails imperceptibles de la flore, de la faune et de leurs habitats dans l’environnement autour de nous sont facilement ignorées et pas pris en considération. Je n’essaie pas de recréer ou de copier la nature mais d’avoir ma propre version et interprétation des formes et des textures que je trouve dans mes objets et bijoux. Ils sont formés par mon environnement et intérêts, et ils prennent leur propre vie au fur et à mesure qu’ils sont réalisés et portés. Mon travail célèbre et magnifie la préciosité de la vie, et sa fragilité ultime. Il favorise la contemplation et la conscience de l’importance de la vie et son caractère éphémère.
