Lou Mallozzi (né en 1957) est un artiste travaillant avec une variété de stratégies, y compris le son, l’installation, la performance, l’intervention publique, le dessin et la musique improvisée. Il explore les relations instables entre perception, médiation, idéologie et pouvoir en entremêlant matériaux, relations humaines, recherches et sites. Ce que l’on qualifie souvent de « disciplines » ou de « médias » – performance, dessin, son, etc. –, il considère comme des stratégies déployées dans un contexte particulier, qu’il s’agisse d’une galerie, d’un musée, d’un théâtre ou d’un espace public. Il a joué et exposé aux États-Unis et en Europe, y compris des projets au Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, au Chicago Cultural Center, au Arts Club de Chicago, à l’Institut culturel italien et au pavillon italien de la Biennale de Venise, au Fort Wayne Museum of Art., la Grunwald Gallery de l’Indiana University Bloomington, Experimental Intermedia New York, « Le Cri du Patchwork » sur Radio France, Ausland Berlin, Podewil Berlin, TUBE Audio Art Series Munich et le Radiorevolten Festival Halle.
En plus de ses œuvres en solo, Mallozzi collabore souvent avec des artistes, des cinéastes et des musiciens. Parmi eux, Sandra Binion, Michael Vorfeld, Alessandro Bosetti, Michael Zerang, Frédéric Moffet, Antonia Contro, Jacques Demierre, Vincent Barras, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Charlotte Hug, Jaap Blonk, Vincent Raude et bien d’autres.
Il a reçu un soutien pour son travail qui comprend plusieurs bourses du Conseil des arts de l’Illinois et des résidences d’artistes par le biais de la Fondation Emily Harvey à Venise, du Chicago-Lucerne Sister Cities Program, du Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Study Center, de la Ragdale Foundation et du Spritzenhaus Hamburg. Il fait partie du corps professoral du département du son de la School of the Art Institute of Chicago et est cofondateur et directeur émérite de Experimental Sound Studio.

English : Lou Mallozzi (b. 1957) is an artist working with a variety of strategies including sound, installation, performance, public intervention, drawing, and improvised music. He explores the unstable relationships among perception, mediation, ideology, and power by intertwining materials, human relationships, research, and sites. What are often described as “disciplines” or “media” – performance, drawing, sound, etc. – he considers to be strategies deployed in a particular context, be it gallery, museum, theater, or public space.

He has performed and exhibited in the U.S. and Europe, including projects at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Arts Club in Chicago, the Italian Cultural Institute and Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, the Grunwald Gallery at Indiana University Bloomington, Experimental Intermedia New York, « Le Cri du Patchwork » on Radio France, Ausland Berlin, Podewil Berlin, TUBE Audio Art Series Munich, and the Radiorevolten Festival Halle. In addition to his solo works, Mallozzi often collaborates with artists, filmmakers and musicians. These have included Sandra Binion, Michael Vorfeld, Alessandro Bosetti, Michael Zerang, Frédéric Moffet, Antonia Contro, Jacques Demierre, Vincent Barras, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Charlotte Hug, Jaap Blonk, Vincent Raude, and many others.

He has received support for his work that includes several fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council, and artist residencies through the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice, Chicago-Lucerne Sister Cities Program, the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Study Center, Ragdale Foundation, and Spritzenhaus Hamburg.

He is on the faculty of the Sound Department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is co-founder and director emeritus of Experimental Sound Studio.
